Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Precision Care for a Faster, Safer Recovery

Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Reclaiming Your Quality of Life

Hearing that you need surgery, whether to remove painful fibroids, treat debilitating endometriosis, or undergo a hysterectomy, is inherently frightening. Historically, major gynecologic surgery meant a large abdominal incision, nights spent in a hospital bed, and weeks of painful, restrictive recovery away from your family and your job.

Today, you don't have to put your entire life on hold to reclaim your health. MomDoc is proud to offer highly advanced, minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery, allowing us to perform complex procedures with unparalleled precision and minimal physical trauma.

The Power of the da Vinci® System

MomDoc utilizes the da Vinci® Surgical System, the gold standard in computer-assisted minimally invasive surgery.

Instead of opening the abdomen, your MomDoc surgeon operates through a few tiny incisions. The surgeon sits at a console in the operating room, viewing a high-definition, highly magnified 3D image of the surgical site. The system's robotic arms hold specialized instruments that bend and rotate far beyond the physical limitations of the human wrist.

This technological advantage translates directly into patient benefits:

  • Unmatched Precision: The system completely filters out natural hand tremors, allowing for microscopic dissection of delicate tissues, such as safely peeling severe endometriosis away from healthy organs.
  • Minimized Scarring: Incisions are often smaller than a dime.
  • Drastically Reduced Pain: Less muscle and tissue are cut, which clinically correlates to significantly less postoperative pain and a drastically reduced need for strong narcotic pain medications.

Clinical Facts: Our Approach to Surgery

Technology is only as effective as the physician utilizing it. We treat surgery not as a first resort, but as a precise, permanent solution when conservative treatments have failed. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) guidelines state that minimally invasive approaches (like vaginal or robotic laparoscopy) are clinically superior to open abdominal surgery for noncancerous conditions [1].

We routinely perform the following robotically:

  • Hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus for conditions like severe bleeding, painful fibroids, or prolapse.
  • Myomectomy: The precise removal of uterine fibroids while meticulously preserving the uterus for future childbearing.
  • Endometriosis Resection: The careful excision of deep endometrial tissue to relieve chronic pelvic pain.
  • Sacrocolpopexy: The repair of pelvic organ prolapse using mesh for long-term structural support.
A Legacy of Surgical InnovationMomDoc's commitment to advancing women's healthcare is deeply rooted in our history. Dr. Grayson Guzman, who now shapes our surgical protocols as an executive clinical leader, was the first physician in the East Valley to be trained on and perform robotic surgery utilizing the advanced da Vinci System. That culture of rigorous training and early adoption continues to drive our surgical excellence today.

Your Peace of Mind

We understand the anxiety that precedes surgery. Your MomDoc surgeon will sit with you in our Living Room environment well before your procedure date, ensuring you understand exactly why this procedure was chosen, what will happen in the operating room, and what your specific recovery timeline will look like.

You deserve to get your life back. Robotic surgery helps you do that, faster and safer than ever before.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a robot actually doing the surgery?

No. The term 'robotic surgery' is a bit of a misnomer. The robot does not make decisions or move on its own. It is a highly advanced surgical tool that is 100% controlled by your MomDoc physician. The system translates your surgeon's exact hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body.

Am I a candidate for robotic surgery instead of open surgery?

Many complex gynecologic procedures that previously required a large abdominal incision can now be performed robotically. This includes hysterectomies, the removal of large fibroids (myomectomies), and severe endometriosis resection. Your MomDoc provider will carefully evaluate your specific anatomy to determine if this minimally invasive approach is the safest option for you.

How much faster is the recovery process?

Because robotic surgery only requires a few tiny incisions (often less than an inch long), most patients experience significantly less pain, blood loss, and scarring. While an open abdominal hysterectomy might require a multi-day hospital stay and a 6-week recovery, many robotic surgery patients go home the exact same day and return to light routine activities within a couple of weeks.

How long will I need to recover from robotic surgery?

Most patients return to normal daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks and light work within 2 to 3 weeks. Full recovery (including exercise and heavy lifting) typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. Compare this to traditional open surgery, which can require 6 to 8 weeks of recovery.

Does insurance cover robotic surgery?

Yes. Robotic-assisted surgery is covered by most insurance plans as a standard surgical technique. It is classified and billed the same as laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgery. Our MomDoc billing team will verify your coverage and provide a cost estimate before scheduling.
