Bayer NIRVANA Study

Investigating treatments for sleep disturbances associated with menopause.

Waking Up to Better Sleep

Of all the changes menopause brings, perhaps the most exhausting is the theft of a good night's sleep. It's the 3:00 AM stare at the ceiling. It's the sheets kicked off in frustration, the endless tossing and turning, and the heavy grogginess that follows you through the next day. Sleep disturbances aren't just an inconvenience; they are a fundamental drain on your quality of life, energy, and mental clarity.

For years, women have been told that poor sleep is simply a cross to bear during "the change." But medical science is finally waking up to the problem.

MomDoc Women's Health Research is taking part in the Bayer NIRVANA study, focusing intensely on non-hormonal treatments specifically designed for the restless nights of menopause.

A Targeted Approach to Rest

This isn't about taking a heavy sedative. The NIRVANA study evaluates Elinzanetant, an investigational medicine that aims to block the specific chemical signals disrupting your rest. As described in the study outline:

"The study treatment Elinzanetant... is under development to treat symptoms like hot flashes which are caused by hormonal changes associated with menopause. It may block the activity of a protein that has been found to contribute to sleep disturbances."

Restful sleep is the foundation of your health. During this 22-week double-blind pilot study, researchers utilize advanced polysomnography (PSG) sleep tests alongside at-home electronic diaries. The focus is precise: tracking the exact number of minutes participants wake up at night (WASO) and their total time asleep while in bed.

Who Can Participate?

We are currently seeking postmenopausal women (ages 40-65) who meet the following key criteria:

  • You experience ongoing, self-reported sleep disturbances directly associated with menopause (waking up at night or poor sleep quality).
  • You do not have a pre-existing primary sleep disorder (like sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome).
  • You have not had a hormone-sensitive malignancy.

When you participate in clinical research, you're not merely exploring new options for yourself, you're helping to rewrite the rules of menopausal care for everyone.

Participation in MomDoc clinical trials is always voluntary, always free, and often includes compensation for time and travel.
