AHCCCS Pregnancy Coverage

Free Prenatal Care for Arizona Women Who Qualify

AHCCCS Pregnancy Coverage

You May Already Qualify

Arizona's AHCCCS program (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System) provides full medical coverage to pregnant women who meet income requirements. Coverage includes all prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum visits with no monthly premiums and no copays.

Income Limits (as of February 2026)

Family SizeMonthly Income Limit
1 person$2,075
2 people$2,814
3 people$3,552
4 people$4,290
5 people$5,029

If your household income falls at or below these amounts, you likely qualify. These limits are updated annually based on Federal Poverty Guidelines.

What AHCCCS Covers for Pregnant Women

When you are approved for AHCCCS Medical Assistance as a pregnant woman, you receive full coverage through an AHCCCS Complete Care health plan. This includes:

  • All routine prenatal office visits
  • Ultrasounds and prenatal lab work
  • Labor, delivery, and hospital stay
  • Postpartum checkup
  • Doula services
  • Prescription medications
  • Emergency care

No premiums. No copays. You pay nothing out of pocket for covered services.

12-Month Postpartum Coverage

As of April 2023, Arizona extended AHCCCS coverage for postpartum women to 12 full months after the end of pregnancy. This means you stay covered for a full year after delivery, giving you time to recover, attend follow-up appointments, and address any postpartum health needs without worrying about losing coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a U.S. citizen to qualify for AHCCCS pregnancy coverage?

You must be a U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant to receive full AHCCCS Medical Assistance. Undocumented women are eligible for emergency services including labor and delivery through Federal Emergency Services (FES). MomDoc provides prenatal care for FES patients because every baby deserves a healthy start.

How long does it take to get approved?

AHCCCS applications are typically processed within 10 to 45 days. Our Health-e-Arizona Assistor submits your application electronically and tracks it through approval so you do not have to follow up yourself.

What if I already have insurance but cannot afford the copays?

If your income qualifies, you may be eligible for both your existing insurance and AHCCCS as secondary coverage. Our billing team can help determine if you qualify for our sliding fee scale based on family size and income.

Does AHCCCS cover my delivery at the hospital?

Yes. Full AHCCCS Medical Assistance covers prenatal visits, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. You will be assigned to an AHCCCS Complete Care health plan that covers hospital delivery at no cost to you.

What happens to my coverage after the baby is born?

Your AHCCCS coverage continues for 12 full months after your pregnancy ends, regardless of income changes during that period. Your newborn is also eligible for separate AHCCCS coverage. Our team can help you enroll your baby before you leave the hospital.
