mid-cycle bleeding?

I have been religiously on Yaz for over a year, I'm on week 2 of the pills but starting yesterday began experiencing cramps and bleeding (not spotting) I have never missed a pill and always take it at exactly 7:30 am..I have never spotted or bled mid-cycle before, what's going on?

Dr. Cliff Goodman, Jr. Responds:

If your pregnancy test is negative, and the bleeding and cramps have stopped, it's okay to wait and see what happens. You should probably keep taking the pill as instructed. If you have quit the pill, all bets are off on what happens to your period for the next few weeks. If you have quit the pill, consider an alternate method of birth control (condoms and foam are a good idea -- the Net can give you good instructions on how to use them). If you're still having problems now, please see your doctor.
