Many physicians “guarantee” to be there to deliver your baby. The community standard is for a doctor to be on call at two or three hospitals at a time, which often leads to those doctors missing deliveries or rushing in at the last moment. It is important for an obstetrician to be present during delivery in case of complications during labor so the mom can receive immediate care. OB physicians also commonly schedule office hours while on call, which means late arrival at the hospital and cancelled appointments in the office. Every woman wants her doctor to deliver her baby in a relaxed peaceful setting.

With a “One Hospital Philosophy” the guarantee that your doctor will be there to deliver your baby is much more attainable. Life has no absolute guarantees, but the goal is to come as close to absolute as possible. This way the health of the baby and mother can be assessed in a timely fashion.

“One Hospital Philosophy” describes the practice of medicine wherein the doctor is not scheduled in two places at the same time. If you have an appointment with your doctor, the doctor will be there to see you as planned. During labor, your doctor will be with you at the hospital and you will not have to worry that he or she is at the office seeing patients or driving between hospitals. The commitment to be in one place at a time is very important because you can have confidence that your doctor is giving you undivided attention throughout pregnancy and delivery. By having a doctor assigned to each hospital, an OB practice can cover call at multiple hospitals, giving patients the choice of where they want to deliver without compromising the level of care that each patient deserves. Childbirth is the most amazing thing - having your personal physician with you will assure a comfortable delivery.
