Before you take another sip of your diet soda, consider this: an article from MSNBC discusses two new studies that link diet soda to poorer health. The University of Texas Health Science Center found that diet soda could make you loosen that belt buckle a notch. Waist sizes increased six times more in those people who said they drank two or more diet sodas a day than those who said they don’t drink diet soda.
In another study, aspartame (the calorie-free sweetener used in many diet drinks) was linked to elevated blood sugar levels in diabetes-prone mice. Research indicates similar correlations in humans.
Rather than quench your thirst with a diet soda, increase your water intake. You will be much better hydrated and avoid the risks associated with the deceptively diet sodas.
